BEHINDTHESCENES:GOLDENHOURAUTOMOTIVESHOOTS

Why we chase the light for car photography — and what goes into planning a shoot that makes any vehicle look cinematic.

Back to Journal

Automotive photography lives and dies by light. We plan every shoot around golden hour or blue hour, when low, warm sunlight rakes across a car's bodylines and creates the kind of contrast and depth that midday sun just can't produce.

Location scouting matters just as much as timing. We look for clean backdrops, interesting textures (parking structures, open roads, industrial backdrops), and permitted access — always with respect for private property and local regulations.

On shoot day, we typically start with wide establishing shots, then move into detail shots (wheels, badges, interior) as the light shifts. If the package includes video, we'll often shoot a short cinematic reel in the same session to make the most of the light window.
